A graph database for persistent identifiers

The Handle Software manages references to resources of information. However, it does not support a search functionality. A prior implementation with Elasticsearch could not efficiently capture the complex structure of our dataset, especially the relationships between handles. In this paper, we apply a graph database together with Elasticsearch to provide more search capabilities to users. In addition, the graph can efficiently store meta-data provided during handle creation. Further use cases for this graph include redundancy detection (two or more handles pointing to the same URL), or bibliographic network analysis

WEBCAM-BASED LASER DOT DETECTION TECHNIQUE IN COMPUTER REMOTE CONTROL

ABSTRACTIn this paper, the authors propose a method to detect the laser dot in an interactive system using laser pointers. The method is designed for presenters who need to interact with the computer during the presentation by using the laserpointer. The detection technique is developed by using a camera to capture the presentation screen and processing every frames transferred to the ara computer. This paper focuses on the detection and tracking of laser dots, based on their characteristics to distinguish a laser dotfrom other areas on the captured frames. Experimental results showed that the proposed method could reduce the rate of misdetection by light noises of a factor of 10 and achieve an average accuracy of 82% of detection in normal presentation environments. The results point out that the better way to describe the laser dots’ features based on visual concept is to use the HSI color space instead of the normal RGB space.Keywords.  laser pointer; laser dot/spot; laser pointer interaction; control; mouse; computer screen/display

For some years, great efforts have been made to record and digitise the printed works of the 16th-18th centuries published in the German-speaking countries. Preparing their full-text transformation conceptually and technically is the overall goal of the DFG-project OCR-D, which is concerned with the further development of optical character recognition methods. The article describes the current state of development of the OCR-D software and analyses its initial testing in selected libraries.Peer Reviewe

Multimodal analysis of methylomics and fragmentomics in plasma cell-free DNA for multi-cancer early detection and localization

Despite their promise, circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA)-based assays for multi-cancer early detection face challenges in test performance, due mostly to the limited abundance of ctDNA and its inherent variability. To address these challenges, published assays to date demanded a very high-depth sequencing, resulting in an elevated price of test. Herein, we developed a multimodal assay called SPOT-MAS (screening for the presence of tumor by methylation and size) to simultaneously profile methylomics, fragmentomics, copy number, and end motifs in a single workflow using targeted and shallow genome-wide sequencing (~0.55×) of cell-free DNA. We applied SPOT-MAS to 738 non-metastatic patients with breast, colorectal, gastric, lung, and liver cancer, and 1550 healthy controls. We then employed machine learning to extract multiple cancer and tissue-specific signatures for detecting and locating cancer. SPOT-MAS successfully detected the five cancer types with a sensitivity of 72.4% at 97.0% specificity. The sensitivities for detecting early-stage cancers were 73.9% and 62.3% for stages I and II, respectively, increasing to 88.3% for non-metastatic stage IIIA. For tumor-of-origin, our assay achieved an accuracy of 0.7. Our study demonstrates comparable performance to other ctDNA-based assays while requiring significantly lower sequencing depth, making it economically feasible for population-wide screening
